The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is a relatively new protected area, being established by President Clinton in 1996. In this rugged, vast land of 1.9 million acres are some of the most outstanding rock formations and canyons. One of the best ways to explore the Monument is to pack into the back country. Once there and alone, one finds himself noticing the intricate shapes and designs created by nature. The three images seen here were found on two different trips to the Canyons of Escalante. Sand laid down millions of years ago and then turned to stone, provides wonderful abstract patterns that we all can now enjoy. |
