“An Evening With
Delicate Arch”
Arches National Park, Utah
2008
When visiting Arches National Park, one treat many people experience is an evening with Delicate Arch. It can almost be described as a ritual pilgrimage of people toting their cameras a mile and a half to capture the beautiful arch at sunset. This particular evening did not hold much promise. An overcast sky had developed just as the sun was approaching the opportunistic time. Everyone took their obligatory shots, packed up their gear, and headed back down the slickrock. I stayed for a moment, letting the crowd thin out. And then something remarkable happened. The sun, now down below the horizon, beamed its rays off of the overcast clouds and back down to the arch. This created the warm reddish hues that I could now enjoy for a few moments. It was a fine evening. |
